Dr. Smith is the Associate Professor of Philosophical Theology and Ethics at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He is also a lecturer at the Harvard Medical School Department of Global Health and Social Medicine.

Dr. Smith has written and contributed to numerous articles, books, and white papers. He has participated in many public forums and panels.
Dr. Smith has been married for 17 years to Johnelle. They have two young children. He enjoys going on dates with his wife, engaging in activities with his family, and playing foosball with his children.
